Norman R Wright & Son’s most important asset is our staff, without their expertise and enthusiasm our company would not be where it is today. The company’s production staff consists exclusively of tradesmen and apprentices; many of the tradesmen completed their apprenticeships with the company and at any given time, Norman R Wright & Sons continues to train a high percentage of the states boat building apprentices.
It’s in-house design staff consists of three naval architects, augmented by capable marine draftsmen, with a combined experience of better than 120 years and a portfolio of successful vessel designs. The design office is a full service facility, undertaking the complete vessel design and including: both styling, arrangement and interior structure, powering prediction and propeller design, stability and subdivision etc.
As a matter of policy, vessels to be built are tank tested to confirm performance characteristics of a design prior to commencing construction, this is often competitive in nature, in that models are often modified and retested to optimise a design or more than one model might be tested.
The vessels built by the company, be they commercial or private, motor or sail, are constructed in fully engineered hand laminated epoxy bonded composites or with advanced epoxy bonded timber structures, depending entirely on client choice and vessel application.
